A Private Journey Through South Australian Wine Country

Experience three of South Australia’s most distinctive wine estates in one private day, travelling from Adelaide through the Torrens Gorge and Adelaide Hills before finishing in the Eden Valley.

The day brings together Penfolds Magill Estate, Mt Bera Vineyards and Henschke, three very different producers, each offering their own perspective on South Australian wine.

Penfolds Magill Estate

Begin at Penfolds Magill Estate, just outside the Adelaide CBD and home to more than 180 years of winemaking history.

Established in 1844, Magill Estate remains a working winery and vineyard and is one of the most important sites in Australian wine.

Your visit includes a premium Penfolds experience, with time to explore the estate and taste a selection of wines from one of Australia’s best-known producers.

The Torrens Gorge & Adelaide Hills

From Magill Estate, leave the city behind and take the scenic route into the Adelaide Hills.

The road follows the River Torrens through the Gorge, winding between native bushland and rocky escarpments before continuing through Castambul, Cudlee Creek and towards Gumeracha.

It is a beautiful part of the Adelaide Hills that few visitors see, and a far more interesting way to travel between Adelaide and the vineyards beyond.

There is time along the way for a scenic or wildlife stop when the opportunity presents itself.

Mt Bera Vineyards

Arrive at Mt Bera Vineyards for a private estate experience overlooking the Torrens Valley.

Mt Bera is a small, family-owned vineyard with a strong focus on organic and biodynamic farming and small-batch winemaking.

Your visit combines a hosted tasting with a long lunch on the estate, featuring seasonal regional produce alongside a selection of Mt Bera wines.

The smaller scale of Mt Bera is an important part of the day. There is time to talk about the vineyards, the different varieties and clones grown across the property, and the decisions that shape the wines from vineyard through to bottle.

Lunch is relaxed and unhurried, with views across the vines and surrounding Adelaide Hills.

Henschke

Continue through the Hills and into Eden Valley for an afternoon visit to Henschke.

Established in 1868, Henschke remains family owned, with more than 150 years of winemaking history across six generations.

Enjoy a premium seated tasting of Henschke wines, with an introduction to the vineyards, varieties and family history behind one of Australia's most highly regarded wine producers.

For serious wine enthusiasts, the Henschke experience can also be elevated to include some of the estate’s more limited and iconic wines.

The Experience

This is a private day designed for guests who want to spend more time at fewer places.

Rather than moving quickly between cellar doors, the itinerary combines three significant but very different wine experiences, a long vineyard lunch and one of the Adelaide Hills’ most scenic drives.

From the history and scale of Penfolds Magill Estate, to the personal experience at Mt Bera and the family legacy of Henschke, the day offers a broad look at South Australian wine without feeling rushed.
